WITH MILDER TEMPERATURES Special forecast for Wellington:— Lig-ht to moderate and variable winds, with northeilies predominating:, i Weather fine to fair and milder. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued today, is for light to moderate and variable winds. Southerlies will still rule at first between Castlepoint and East Cape, but otherwise winds will be north-easterly to northerly in direction. The weather will be fine generally and milder, but a few isolated are probable later in south Westland and in the far south.

An intense anticyclone now lies centrally over the Dominion, and in most places a barometric reading of over 30.5 inches was recorded at 9 a.m. today. There were a few passing coastal showers yesterday and last night between Banks Peninsula and East Cape, in which area southerly winds were fresh, but otherwise the weather has l#en fair with light to moderate winds. It was brilliantly fine practically everywhere this morning, winds being lighter and more variable in direction and having a northerly tendency about and to the south of Cook Strait. Frosts were common last night and in places severe. Auckland has had a continuance of fine and clear weather with a gentle southerly breeze. Wellington's weather yesterday was cold and for the most part overcast, with a moderate to fresh southerly wind. Showers, totalling six points of rain at Kelburn and three in Lower Hutt, fell between 6 and 9.15 p.m., but the southerly decreased during the night, and at 9 a.m. today it was calm. In Christchurch it has been cold and for the most part cloudy. Some drizzling rain totalling three points fell there yesterday morning, and a southerly breeze prevailed all day. The night, however, was clear and cold, and a frost of ten degrees was recorded. At 9 a.m. today it was very hazy with a light wind from the northDunedin had a calm day. The morning was dull, but the afternoon was sunny. There was a severe frost last night, and at 9 a.m. today conditions were still clear.
