FIRE AT GORE
CLUB'S HEAVY LOSS
; (By Telegraph—Press Association.) I GORE, This Day. A two-storey building containing the Star Stores grocery, W. Christie's cycle 'shop, and Mrs. M. Isabeth's mantle shop on the ground floor and the rooms of the Gore Soldiers' Club on the second floor was gutted by. fire last night. The first outbreak, the cause of which is unknown, occurred about 10 o'clock, and gutted Mrs. Isabeth's shop, the rest of the building being saved by the efficient work of the brigade. The second outbreak occurred about four hours later. The flames had a strong hold by the time the brigade arrived. The building was erected in 1906, and was owned by the Gore Proprietary Company. It was insured in the Queensland Office for £2500. The contents of the shops were insured, Christies with the Yorkshire Office, for | £475. Details of the others are not | available. The contents of the club rooms were insured with the New Zealand Office for £650. The loss is a severe one to the club as many irreplaceable records, war relics, and historic photographs were destroyed, as well as three billiard tables, upward of 100 cues, and the club library. The club steward and secretary of the Gore R.S.A.. (Mr. G. Gerken) also suffered a severe loss of his private stock of , tobacco, etc.
