Charged with unlawfully landing in New Zealand while he was a prohibited immigrant, Joseph Mahoney, an able seaman, aged 29 years, was today convicted by Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M., and ordered to be deported. The defendant will leave New Zealand by the Golden Cloud tomorrow, and was ordered to be kept in custody in the meantime. Mahoney was sentenced to one month's imprisonment on May" 2 for assaulting an officer of his ship, the Golden Bear, while the officer was attempting to hold down a pedigree bull.
