BUSIER TODAY

In order to afford motorists the fullest opportunity to attend to the registration of their vehicles and the renewing of their licences the Post Office and City Traffic Office continued the special staffs and counters at the Concert Chamber today, but from tomorrow registration plates must be obtained at. the Post Office and a second call must be made at the Traffic Office for the renewal of drivers" licences. The number of applicants was steadily maintained today, and had motorists not been so casual in the first days that the office was open the whole of the registration and licence business would by now have been pretty well completed. The total number of plates issued up till Saturday night was 10.069 (compared with 9049 to May 31 of last year) and today probably another 500 will be issued by closing time. It is estimated that there are about 2000 vehicles, cars, cycles, trucks, for which plates have still to be issued. The number of driving licences issued was 8500, but many drivers have still to come forward, for the Traffic Office records contain 15,800 names. As in past years a good many drivers will probably not re-register their cars until they feel again that spring-time feeling and unlock the garage, closed for the winter.
