CASES PREPARED

MUSEUM EXHIBITS

WORK PROGRESSING

The work of preparing cases for the numerous exhibits that are to be placed in- the new Dominion Museum is progressing rapidly, many of the two hundred odd cases required being ready for their glass walls. As soon as the linoleum is put down in the galleries— a large area of floor is already covered —the cases will be placed in,position and the arranging of the exhibits will be commenced. In addition to the movable cases that will stand clear of all walls'so that visitors can /pass around them, there will be a number of fixed cases against the walls in suitable corners and several of these are already in place. These are to be painted inside and then the glazing can be done. The problem of securing a uniform temperature -throughout the building, so that the exhibits will keep in the best condition possible, is being faced at the present time, and it is expected that success will be achieved before the exhibits are arranged. The heating system has been in operation for some days and numerous adjustments are being made to reduce the temperature in some places and increase it in others. ' ' T Work in the Maori Hall is also proceeding rapidly, and the war canoes that will be prominent exhibits" have taken on their old-time splendour. The high carved prows and stern-posts have been put in place, and the feather decorations fixed, making the hollowed logs into stately and impressive ships. While the work of arranging the exhibits inside the building is proceeding, workmen are busy on the roadways that will form the approach from Buckle Street. A great deal of work is still to be done on the roads and terraces, and other work will have to be done at the sides and back of the . building before ' its surrounding will do it justice.
