Welcoming Party. A pleasant evening was spent recently at the S. P. Andrew studio at which- members of the Social Service Guild, Old Girls' Association, Wellington Girls' College, welcomed back their president (Mrs. W. O. Urquhart), who has. been visiting Australia. During the evening Mrs. Urquhart spoke about her travels and showed interesting snapshots. She expressed the hops that more members would attend the meetings as a bright programme had been arranged for the year, and stated that at the next meeting Mrs. Martyn Williams would give a talk on Shakespearean plays. The Social Service Guild was doing good work and members were congratulated on their efforts. Supper was served by the committee. Recipe Wanted. A correspondent requires a recipe for making marshmallow. To Leave for London. Next Wednesday Miss Elisabeth Alpers will leave Christchurch for Wellington on the first stage of her journey to London, where she. will enter a training college for secretaries (states the "Press").-. Miss Alpers, who is the only daughter of the late Mr. Justice Alpers and of Mrs. Alpers, Fendalton, is very popular in Christchurch, and her many friends, particularly her fellow-members of the Rangi-ruru Old Girls' Association, will wish her much success and happiness' in the career she has chosen. .; During the last few weeks she has been the honoured guest at many parties, amongst the pleasantest of which -was a 5 o'clock ■'. party given on Wednesday by Miss Celia Reese at her home on Cashmere Hills. Her guests were Mrs. A. T. J. Alpers and Miss Elisabeth Alpers, Mrs. Malcolm Powrle, Mrs. A. F. Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Lan Cottrell, Misses Brigit Gresson, Helen Buchanan, Patricia Powrie, Ann Cooper, Agatha Upham, Sheila Atkinson, Peggy Acton-Adams, Anne Fell, Nora Firth, Phillipa Acland, Janet Stevenson, Isabel Wright; Messrs. Peter Alpers, Terence Gresson, I. M. Godby, Lewis Black; Owen Poulton, Gerald Scott, Stephen Scott, Denis Buchanan. Neil Buchanan, C. J. Ward, Qw.en Johnston, Alister Guild. Peter Markham, Tom Rutherford, and Dr. G. Riley. j Large "Kitchen Tea" Party.' Miss Essie Nausbaum,- who is to be married'shortly, 'was the recipient of many useful gifts at a "kitchen .tea" given in her honour by her sister, Mrs. Lionel Davis, in the Majestic Lounge. The lounge looked very.warm..and inviting and the 50 guests present at the tea party enjoyed theC afternoon'chatting and listening.to'tlie music of. the dance . orchestra.r; A dainty; afternoon tea was served on the balcony, the tables being attractively arranged in horse-shoe fashion. Seatoun R.S.A. Dance. No effort is being spared by the Seatoun Auxiliary Committee to ensure the success of their opening dance oh the 20th instant, in the Ventnor Street Schoolroom.. Excellent music will be provided, and an energetic ladies' '- committee will be responsible for the supper arrangements, which, according to present indications, will easily attain the high standard achieved at'the committee's dances in the past. Missionary Auxiliary. There was a large attendance at th*> May meeting of the Lower Hutt Methodist Women's Missionary Auxiliary. A cordial welcome was extended to th° Rev., and Mrs. H. Peat, the latter being appointed a vice-president of the, society. A "bring-and-buy" stall,--pre-sided over by; Mrs. W. E. Saunders, did brisk trade, and there was a splendid display of little nightgowns, coats, bootees, etc., which had been made by members for needy Maori children in the Auckland district. The secretary. Mrs.'L.W Phillips, was instructed to purchase further supplies of material and wool to make up into garments. It was reported that a large sack of clothing -had been sent to Sister Ivy Jones, Auckland, and the new garments handed in during, the afternoon will also be forwarded to her. -After tea had been served an address was given by one I of the visiting ladies, Mrs. .Craven, of Fernhill, Hastings; who spoke oh the aims and ideals of the Women's Institute movement in New Zealand, dealing particularly with the country institutes and the work'they are doing among the Maori women. A very hearty, vote of thanks was accorded Mrs.'Craven at the conclusion of her interesting talk. • ■ ■ ■ i
