SUCCESSFUL THESPIANS
PLAYS—AND A DANCE
There was an enthusiastic audience of members and their friends at the Thespian one-act play and social evening at the St. Francis Hall last night. An excellent programme was-pre-sented, including scenes from Eugene O'Neill's famous drama ."The Hairy Ape," produced by,D. G. Edwards. The second of these extracts—a scene in the. stokehold of an 'Atlantic linerwas a particularly good' presentation. Brilliant lighting and sound effects and an 'excellent'■performance"' by • Max Willis- as a .stoker contributed tb. its success. Others - who took part successfully in'the play were Geraldine Callagher, Eileen Hill, Bligh Pickering, John Hopkins, Frank Tomlinson, and Jack McLeod. This was followed by a very-amusing Cockney sketch presented by H. A. Painter and Eric EvanYoung. . An effective triangular setting was used for the next play, "Object All Sublime," a new one-act drama by Fred. Ferris. Those taking part were Charles Acheson, F; S. Hill, S. Tansley, and Warren Toogood. The play was produced by Evan Harrowell, and the stage managed by Geoffrey Lloyd. The final play was ■ "T1 Pup," a bright little north-country comedy, which was presented with gratifying success by the Junior Thespians under the direc-tion-of A. D. Priestley. Those taking part were Betty Lloyd, Denis Hartley, aadE.de Mauny. Among those present who stayed to dance were Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Basr sant, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Render, Mr. and Mrs. S. Tansley, Mr. and Mrs. Vryn Evans, Me., and Mrs. D. G. Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. V. S. Lloyd, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Hopkins, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Dean, Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Priestley, Misses W. Cooley, Shirley Hopkins, Margaret Hunt, H. Bayne, J. Barke, M. Sinel. J-. Nielson, and Messrs. F..S. Hill, S. Toogood, G, Philp, R. J. Larkin, Myles. Wright, and the following members of the "Fresh Fields" Company:. Mr. and Mrs; Norman Shepherd, Misses Ethel Morrison, Elaine Hamill, Phyllis Baker, Enid Hollins, and Messrs. Campbell Copelin, Arthur Lane,, and Lloyd Lamble.
