WORK OF HOUSE

THE MARKETING BILL

NO UNDUE DELAY

BREAK IN. SESSION

It is the intention of the Government to pass the Primary Products Marketing Bill without any waste oi time, and when the House of Representatives meets tomorrow afternoon this measure will take -precedence. The Prime Minister (the Rt; Hon. M. J. Savage) stated, today that he would ask for urgency, but that did not indicate that the House would be asked to sit continuously before the Bill was passed. He wished the people to have a reasonable knowledge of what was going on, and if satisfactory progress were made, members would not be asked to sit very late. It was his desire, however, to have the second reading, at least, agreed to at tomorrow's sitting.

'While we have a weapon that has been supplied to us by the Opposition we will use it to prevent unreasonable obstruction," said Mr. Savage, referring to the closure.

After the Primary Products Marketing Bill was passed, said Mr. Savage, attention would be given to the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill. j ADJOURNMENT OF HOUSE. Questioned regarding the short adjournment of the session, the Prime Minister said that he hoped that it | would be possible to take it about the | end of this month. The Government aimed at having a sufficient break to enable it to shape the remainder of its' programme for the year so that when the House resumed after a period of about four or five weeks the Budget and additional legislation would be ready.

He indicated, however, that, perhaps with the exception of the Bill proposed to be introduced by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, he desired to have the measures nyw in sight passed before" 'the House adjourned. '
