WHO GAINS MOST ?

Sir, —I am a tradesman out of work and I have been compelled to-accept relief wages since the late Government's increased exchange of 25 per cent, came into operation. Now lam surprised that the Government's 40----hour week. Bill does not give consideration first to the principle of helping to put1 men back to work. It would certainly help to put some back to work if the Bill went through for a
40-hour week on the present hourly basis. The little each worker would lose would certainly help to put many back who have stood the strain of hardship now for a long period. Many men have been fortunate enough not to know what the depression has really meant. They have never lost a week during the, whole time, and these are the ones who again have first consideration by a Bill for 40 hours without reduction in wages. They will also have the cuts restored. —I am, etc., LIVE AND LET LIVE.
