MUSIC IN ENGLAND
GROWING APPRECIATION
(By Telegran'—• ress Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. . Greater interest in music is being taken in England, according to Mr. R. Hawkes, of Boosey and Hawkes, band instrument makers, London, who arrived by the Aorangi from Sydney and leaves for America by the Mariposa on Saturday. Mr. Hawkes said that orchestras were being formed in many English schools and music was being given a larger place in education. The 8.8.C. had inaugurated a five-year-plan for brass bands and was insisting on a high standard of performance.
