THREE PIECE KNITTED SUIT
Last week directions were given for making the short-sleeve jumper, and, to complete the set, instructions are given here for making the cardigan in twisted moss- stitch and skirt in diagonal rib. ; . . : CARDIGAN IN TWISTED MOSS STITCH Materials required: :Eight ounces 3-' ply super kasha wool, 1 pair each No. 9 and No. 14 needles, 1 bone crochet hook, 3 small wooden button moulds. Measurements: To ..nt'i,3sin-36in bust. Stitch used: Twisted.nioss stitch. Jst row: X 1, pi to end of row, working into the back of the knitted stitch. 2nd row: As first. . „-, DIRECTIONS. Back: Using the 145,,: cast on 108 stitches.' .Work 4in in single ribbing. Change to 9's and work lOin in pattern to armhole. Shape armhole by casting off five sts. at beginning of next two rows, then k 2 tog. at beginning and end of every-2nd row until 86 sts. remain. Work straight for 7in>, then cast off six sts. at beginning of every row until 38 remain. .Cast off. I
Left Front: Cast on, 53 sts.,. work 4in rib. Change to pattern, ' work: eight rows straight, then-k 2 tog. at centre edge every Bth row ,all the way up front. Work another sleeve the same.
Wdrk: strip 10 sts. wide; 6n.;l4's: to go round neck and-,, down sides. 'Work Jin garter stitch, then make , buttonhole by k 3, cast off 4, k 3. -Next row, cast on 4 sts. to replace ones cast off. Make three buttonholes at: even intervals ia the -first 4into sew on basque.
.To make up: Cover '.the button moulds with' fine crochet and stitch on to. jacket- r Turn,, inside out after joining up all'sections and press lightly under.a.damp cioth.
. THE SKIRT. Measurements: Waist 28-29. Hips 28 40. Full length 31ih.
Materials required: Eighteen ounces Mystic' boiicle wool in dark brown, 1 circular needle, Nov 10.
Directions: Cast, on 390, stitches on circular needle, No. 10;. knit into the
back of the stitches and,join, being careful not to twist them. Knit 5 purl and 5 plain, moving one stitch to the left in every second row to make diagonal rib. To save confusion, mark beginning of each row with a coloured thread.
Knit for lOin without decreasing, then . decrease the next row by knitting every 13th and ' 14th stitch together. ■ '
Knit 3in without decreasing. On next row knit every 11th and 12th tog. Knit.3in without decreasing. On next row knit every: 9th and 10th tog. . Knit Bin without decreasing. On next row knit every 9th and 10th tog. Knit 3in without decreasing. On next row knit every 9th and 10th. tog. Knit lin without decreasing, then divide stitches at one side, leaving an opening for 3in to form placket, making skirt 31in long in all.' Cast off. "■ ' '■
Crochet two rows of single crochet round hem of skirt. ..
The skirt should be blocked to your own • measurements; approximately waist 29in, hips 38in, would be correct for this skirt, though it may be varied an inch or so in the blocking. Soak it in cold water' for a few minutes, wring out as dry as possible and lie on a flat surface (table top). Pin out to required measurements, ■ being careful to use rustless pins, placing pins not more than lin apart. Pull the skirt downwards to 36in and pin right across hem. Leave about 24-30 hours to dry thoroughly., Iron crease marks out under a damp cloth. . ■■•■
Turn hem up according to length required. You will firyl now that the skirt will never drop. Fasten a waistband of webbing, with hooks and eyes, and stitch top of skirt to it, darting at back as in ' dressmaking. Fasten placket with press studs.
