ently getting the feel of the boat better towards the end and made an exciting : finish, crossing the line only seven seconds behind Idono.

Advance took the lead at the start of the .H. and N. class race, but was soon after weathered by Ariki, which then led to the finishing line, crossing li minutes ahead of the former boat. This was a very good performance for the Ariki which won easily without the help of her 5J minutes' handicap. Kio 11, which started a little late fought neck and. neck with Advance for most of the way, but eventually was beaten by lmin 49sec. Advance, on this occasion, was sailed by Murray Lang, skipper of the Rob Roy.

The results of this race, as recorded last week, were incorrect, the times of the first two boats being transposed resulting in Kio being placed third instead of second. The correct results (times adjusted) should read:—Ariki, 4h 28min 2sec, 1; Kio 11, 4h 34min 55 sec, 2; Advance, 4h 35min 6sec, 3.

The Idle Along race was won by the scratch boat Vampire by a margin of 38 seconds from the Belvedere (2min). The only other starter, Dorothy, finished well back. Betty with 2£min handicap easily won the Tauranga race being ■ first: boat home, over two minutes ahead of the scratch boat Imp. Now that racing for the season is practically finished it is hoped that all members will rally round and help the club to carry forward work on the new reclamation. The first job to be done is the shifting of Shed No. 104 to one side to allow levelling to be completed.

The Worser Bay Boating Club's season was concluded last Saturday when two races were sailed off. The first was a resail of the second race for the Pennsylvania Cup. The boats were started on the Mark Foy system in order to see how it appealed to skippers, and it met with general approbation. The breeze was a spanking northerly and full sail could just be flown. The race was won by the Antoinette with the Elvine second and the Kathleen third. The finishing' times were:— Antoinette (3min), 3h 12m 15s, 1; Elvine (2min), 3h 13m ss, 2; Kathleen (scr), 3h 13m 255, 3. Also started: Minx (3min)> 3h 16m ss; Mabelle (2min), 3h 17m 50s; Spitfire (2min), 3h 22m 10s; Bonny Jean did not finish. Fastest time went to Kathleen. Elvine having gained most points in the two races wins the cup.

A final points race over a short course was also sailed off and resulted in a win for the Elvine. The finishing times of this race were:—Elvine (lmin), 4h 24m 20s, 1; Bonny Jean (3min), 4h 24m 355, 2; Kathleen (scr), 4h 25m ss, 3. Also started: Minx (2min), 4h 25m 20s; Antoinette Q|min), 4h 26m ss; Spitfire (2min), 4h 26m 50s; Mabelle (2min), 4h 28m 50s. Fastest time again to the Kathleen with the Elvine 15sec away.

The Charman Cup points now finally stand as follows:—Kathleen (G. Cain), 50; Elvine (F. Mumford, R. Swanson), 49; Mabelle (F. Christensen), 46.

A most successful season has been held and the enthusiasm augurs well for the next season of racing.

Most bowlers find that added enjoyment is derived from a game by having an occasional pipe or cigarette, but jl their choice' falls on the latter they should be careful not to discard smouldering butts into the ditch. At Pahiatua recently a. bowl rolled into the ditch and on ■to a cigarette, with the result that when it was picked up its symmetry was marred by a fairsized hole.
