The Riverton Racing Club's fixture opened in cloudy weather and with a large holiday attendance. The track was heavy from overnight rain and early morning showers.

Orepuki Novice Stakes, £125; 6 fur-Longs.—l-1 Stolen March, 7.4 (Wilson),
1; 5-5 Fog Peak, 7.4, 2; 2-2 Pink Del, 8.12, 3. Scr.: Silver' Issue, Ashaway, Waiau Maid. Two and a half lengths; two lengths. Time, lmin 16 l-ssec.
Waiau Steeplechase, £150; about 2 miles.—2-3 Pahu, 10.8 (G. Ridgway),
1; 1-1 Miss Winston, 9.0, 2; 6-6 Royston, 9.0, 3. All started. Blue Metal finished fourth and was the only other competitor to complete the course. Two lengths; three lengths. Time, 4 min'.2oJsec.
