The Director of the Horticulture
Division has received the following reports from his officers regarding the fruit crop prospects at the end of March last:—Auckland: Apples, light to average; lemons and oranges, good promise; peaches, light to good; pears, fair to average; tomatoes, fair. Hamilton: Apples and pears, average; peaches, light to average. Tauranga: Apples, light to good; oranges, below average; pears, average; walnuts, light. Gisborne: Apples, heavy; lemons, average to heavy; oranges and walnuts, average; pears, medium to light; tomatoes, very light. Hastings: Apples, light; to good; pears, light to medium. Masterton: Apples, pears, and walnuts, average; tomatoes, moderate. Nelson: Apples, average to good; peaches and pears, good. Mapua: Apples, fair to good, stunners heavy; pears, good to heavy- Motueka: Apples,: good ,to heavy (hail damage); pears, good. Blenheim: Apples and peats, average to heavy; peaches, light to good; walnuts, light. Christchurch: Apples and walnuts, average; nectarines, peaches, and pears, heavy; plums, mednftn; tomatoes, average to good. Dunedin: Apples, light to heavy; peaches, good to heavy; pears, average to heavy; walnuts, average. Alexandra: Apples and pears, below average; tomatoes, average to good; walnuts, very heavy.
