"THE GONDOLIERS."
Savoy Operas,
At the Grand Opera House this evening at 8 o'clock, the J. C. Williamson management will present their latest Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company, numbering over 100 artists in a brilliant production of the melodious, picturesque, and humorous comic opera, "The Gondoliers," regarded by playgoers as the most entertaining of the operas created by England's beloved collaborators. The- revival of "The Gondoliers" will be specially interesting because it will give playgoers an opportunity to enjoy artists who have on previous occasions appeared in Wellington, and it will introduce a number of distinguished singers, dancers, and comedians from the London Savoy Theatre. The box plans will be on view at the Grand Opera House right up to 8 o'clock this evening. Tickets, for unreserved stalls and gallery may be purchased the whole day at the Grand Opera House confectionery shop, or obtained at the theatre ticket boxes this afternoon and this evening. Thousands of ardent Gilbert and Sullivan devotees eagerly look forward to the presentation of the Savoy operas; indeed, by many of the older generation each, fresh visit is remembered as a milestone on life's highway, and each makes new converts among the younger folk, no matter how strongly jazz may have a grip on their affections. Ivan Menzies, as the Duke of Plaza-Toro, Evelyn Gardiner, as the Duchess of Plaza-Toro, and Gregory Stroud as Giuseppe, are each appearing in characters in which they achieved outstanding triumphs when "The Gondoliers" was last staged here. "The Gondoliers" will also be presented on Monday afternoon and evening. On Tuesday and Wednesday "The Pirates of Penzance" will be staged. On Thursday and Friday nights, and Saturday afternoon next, "The Yeoman of the Guard" will be performed, and will be followed by "lolanthe," "The Mikado," "Patience," and "H.M.S. Pinafore." '
