ATHLETES AND LEAGUE FOOTBALL

The West Coast (North Island) Amateur Athletic Centre asked the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association for a ruling last night as to whether an amateur athlete would endanger his amateur status if he plays League football even if he receives no payment. In reply to questions, members of the reinstatement committee said that an athlete could "play football among players who were paid provided he himself did not accept payment, but if he was a member of a team which competed for a money prize his-amateur status vas-affected.
