RANDWICK'S OPENING DAY
The Australian Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting will be opened at Randwick on Saturday, when the Doncaster Handicap, the first "leg" of the big autumn double in Sydney, will be decided. The meeting will be continued on Monday (Sydney Cup Day) and Wednesday, and it will be concluded on Saturday week. The schedule for the first day's racing, with approximate New Zealand times of starting, is as follows:—First Hurdles (3 p.m.), £500, about 2 miles; Autumn Plate (3.55 p.m.), £1500, standard weight-for-age, 1J m}]e^ AJC Sires' Produce Stakes (4.30 p.m.), £3000 added, for two-year-olds, 7 furlongs.—Doncaster Handicap (5.15 p.m.), £2600, 1 mile; A.J.C. St. Leger Stakes (5.45 p.m.), £1500, for three-year-olds, 15 miles; and vaucluse Handicap (6.25 p.m.), £650, lowest weight 8.0, 7 furlongs. At latest advice from Sydney the ruling favourites for the Doncaster Handicap were the three-year-old Garrio and the recent Caulfield Futurity and Newmarket winner Regular Bachelor, who were sharing the top line. On the second line were Gay Blonde and Valiant Chief, with Barak, High, and Lough Neagh at next.call. Garriq's favouritism is of interest, as he will be ridden by K. Voitre, who was successful in the race twelve months ago on the favourite Hall Mark, though he had to survive a protest afterwards from the connections of the second horse, High.
