MINING NEWS

ALEXANDER REPORT

Alexander Mines, Ltd., reports for month of March last as l'ollows:—No. 4 intermediate north drive: Face driven to a point 92 feet north of winze. Stone varying in- width from two' to four feet has been driven on, the face showing reef averaging 2ft 6in in width. Gold has been showing freely in the last fifteen feet driven. No. 4 intermediate south: The position of this face is now 40 feet south of the winze. The drive has passed through the reef on this end, the face showing reef track only. The length of this block developed to date is 132 feet. No. 5 north crosscut: Crosscutting continued until a point -40 feet east of the main level was reached. From 23 to 28 feet in, a reef track was passed through which gave gold in every sample taken and carries small bands of stone and quartz grit. This being the most important development encountered in this level it was decided to turn the north level eastward and drive on this line. The main drive was turned and at 37 feet passed through stone and reef track four feet wide between walls. This appears to be the south end of the McVicar block, but further driving requires to be carried out before it can be definitely stated that this is so. The stone is highly mineralised and carries a big flow of water. Stoping has been carried out in the leading stopc on the south side of No. 4 winze. The lode has improved hi size, being from 3ft 6in to sft in width. No clean-up will take place this month but in future monthly returns can be expected. One hundred and seventy tons have been broken and sent to the battery. The mill is now running two shifts.
