The final gallops for the opening day of the Autumn Carnival were staged on the Eandwick B grass track this morning next the rails. One of the best gallops' was credited to Cuddle. Carrying McCarten with her full Doncaster weight 'and travelling wide out Cuddle recorded lmin Usec for five furlongs, a very good piece of work. Gay Blonde gave Golden Gate a start and won over five furlongs run in 60Jsec. Both were lightly shod and carried lighter weights than Cuddle. Golden Chance was not hurried at the finish to run five furlongs in lmin 4sec. ■ ' Egmont, who will have his- final Sydney Cup gallop .on Saturday, sprinted well today. Ridden by McCarten he ran the last two furlongs of steady work in 25sec. Salamander was n.ot hurried to run ten furlongs in 2min 17sec. Fidelity did a very fast half-mile in 49£ sec.
Cereza (Pratt) also went very well, covering four furlongs in 493 sec.
The fastest six furlongs of the morning was established by Kuvera, who easily beat Canegrass in lmin 13Jsec. Oro gave a start and easily beat Coll Star over ten furlongs in 2min 7|sec. The last four furlongs took 50sec. Gold Rod led Treasure Trove on the tan after three furlongs covered easily in 38Jsec.
Sylvandale will not race at the meeting. Not having' pleased the trainer, Sylvandale has been withdrawn from all engagements.
On the Victoria Park course proper thirty feet out, Silver Ring, with Voitre up, did good striding work over six furlongs in lmin 20sec.
Spear Prince beat Soft Step by twelve lengths over nine - furlongs in lmin 59Jsec. '
Valiant Chief, going easily, did fiv« furlongs in lmin 6£sec.
Peter Pan ran a nice mile.
Hall Mark and Cherry King did four furlongs in 50sec. The trainer wai very pleased with Hall Mark's work.
Lone Raider and King Charles went just fairly over four furlongs in 52sec.
Glenspear and Contact did six furlongs in lmin 20sec. Contact continues to work well.
At Moorefield, on the course proper, Journal went a mile in lmin 481 sec, an attractive effort in view of- th« smallness of the track.
