HATAITAI HOME ENTERED
Climbing through a bedroom window while a man and his wife were at tea in an adjoining*room, a thief yesterday stole a handbag containing about a pound'g worth of silver from a dressingtable. On any ordinary day he would have added a £40 diamond ring to his haul. .. / ■ ■ . Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Pascoe, of Waipapa Road, Hataita'i, returned home yesterday evening at 6.15. Mrs. Pascoe put her bag and a pair of gloves on the dressing-table in the bedroom, and joined her husband at tea in the next room. When she returned at 7 o'clock the bag had gone and the window -was open. The window looks out from the front, of the house, but 'is hidden from the road by a high hedge.
Mr. Pascoe said he had'the bag made from leather to his own specifications, and there was no similar bag in New Zealand. It Was Mrs., Pascoe's practice to leave her diamond ring in the bag, but as she was going out last evening she kept the ring on.
