EASTER SHOW
HORSE JUMPING EVENTS
MANY ENTRIES
The Easter Show is now so well established in popularity that the attendances show a considerable increase upon those of last year, apart from the crowds who may be expected to visit the grounds for the extensive programme of stock judging, horse and pony jumps, and dog trials, which commences on Saturday. There is no extra charge for admission to the horse events. From 2 p.m. on Saturday the judging of the various horse classes will be available, and there will be the maiden, maiden handy hunter, ladies' maiden, and the. Drapers' and. Retailers' jumping competitions. On Easter Monday there will be the pony and other jumps, including the wire jump, and on Tuesday there will be the dog trials and, amongst other jumping events the pony championship jump. There are no fewer than 260 entries in the horse events, and riders from Dannevirke, Masterton, Manawatu, Wanganui, Raetihi, and Ohingaiti will compete, as well as local riders, amongst whom,- in the pony jumps, will be the children of Lady Galway. MINISTERIAL VISIT. A visit was paid to the stall of the 2nd Field Company, New Zealand Engineers, at the Easter Show, on Saturday evening by the Hon. F. Jones, Minister of Defence, and the Hons. P. Fraser and W. Nash. Military engineering, by means of models and photographs, is well displayed in the stall, and the Ministers were keenly interested in the exhibits, which, were rendered possible by the Dominion president of the South African WaiVeterans' Association (Mr. J. I. Goldsmith). The stall was arranged by the engineers with a view to recruiting and also to assist their unit funds and the Central Military Command Art Union. Amongst the models is a tidal ramp, fixed in a tank, the rise and fall of water being effected by electrical pumping equipment. There are also models of a lashed trestle bridge, a single sling bridge, a pontoon bridge, and complete sets of model folding boats and pontoon equipment. Old wartime photographs add to the interest of the collection, and the sappers in charge of the stall explain all the exhibits.
