"PAMPERED PLAYERS"
ETJGBT COMPLAINTS
EXPENSES AND TRANSPORT
(By Telegraph—l'res3 Association.)
DARGAVILLE, This Day,
Strong criticism of players who needed pampering in order to induce them to play was expressed at the annual !'.eeting of the Northern Wairoa Rugby Union last night. The discussion arose on a remit from the Kaihi Club that travelling expenses be paid.
The president, Mr. W. Montgomery, suggested that the union arrange transportation.
"Players are getting too greedy," said Mr. W. Underwood. "They want to be picked up along with their young ladies and brought to the ground. Then they play with great gusto. In the old days players walked many miles, but now „ players want transport for themselves and their women."
The downfall of Rugby had been the paying of players' expenses, said Mr. P. Brydon. The remit was lost by a large majority. The appointment of a sole selector in each grade was decided upon.
