PUBLIC ACCOUNTS
CHANGE IN POLICY
SUMMONING OF PARLIAMENT
The future policy of the Government will be to call Parliament together as soon as possible after the closing of the public accounts on March 31 each year, according to a statement made today by the Prime Minister (the Hon. M. J. Savage).
Mr. Savage said he saw no reason why they should not follow the same course as ' the British Parliament, where the public accounts were submitted to the country before they were audited. Cabinet would give the matter its • serious consideration. Parliament had to sit well on towards Christmas because of the present system, under, which the Budget and financial policy were not introduced tmtil the accounts were returned from audit. The Government needed to slkape a new course so that the country's affairs could be discussed at the- earliest possible moment after A definite policy would be laid'down before Parliament met next year.
