ANOTHER ROUTE
The Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, reported at last evening's meeting of the City1 Council that suggested alternative proposals for improved access to the western suburbs had been submitted by Mr.'G. T. P. Williams, involving the construction of a new street from Lambton .-. Quay, opposite Ballance Street, to the intersection of Bowen Street and The Terrace,'thence through the Museum grounds to Sydney Street. The City Valuer had advised that a rough estimate of the cost of property resumption and compensation for dis-4ocation-of business, u^quld,, on a canrj servative" basis, amount to at least £144,000.": ■

—The Town Clerk had reported, con-tinued-Mr. Hislop, that .that figure showedthat the proposal was a very extensive one and that no. action had been taken, to obtain .any, estimate, of the engineering costs. The letter was formally received.
