FRUIT EXPORT

NO GUARANTEED PRICES

No guaranteed prices for fruit growers will be forthcoming this year, according to a statement made by Mr. W. Benzies, secretary of the New Zealand Fruit Export Control Board, to a recent meeting of Hawke's Bay fruit growers. . . "When the Labour Party got into power we quickly got into touch with the Minister to see if the guarantee proposals would be applied to the fruit industry this year," continued Mr. Benzies. ' "The position is the Government desires to carry out its guarantee plan for the dairying industry, perfect it and get it in working order, and from the experience gained apply it to the fruit industry. Mr. Nash told me it> would not be applied to the fruit industry this year. The only guarantee we have this year is a maximum of ,8000 cases to be sent to Eastern markets."
