TO BE "CIVILISED"
ALL WAGNER'S OPERAS
NAZI CONCEPTIONS
(Received April 7, 2 p.m.)
MUNICH, -April 6.
All of Wagner's operas, which Herr Hitler and General Gpering frequently attend, being inveterate Wagnerites, will be "civilised" at the forthcoming Bayreuth festival, in order to comply with the Nazi conceptions of history and^ show the "noble qualities of our German ancestors." Thus the barbaric crowd which has hitherto been brought on the stage as King Guhther's retinue in "Gotterdammerung" will appear in artistic mantles and with their hair and beards shorn and their gestures subdued, "-so as to give- tha impression that they are not barbarians but cultured German nobles."
The entire "ring" will be similarly revolutionised.
