A CHARMING PARTY It is not often that people have a very special afternoon' tea, plus cocktails, with the added pleasure of seeing very artistically taken photographs, but Miss A. D. Douglas accomplished ell that yesterday afternoon, giving pleasure to about seventy guests. . The party was given at the Midland Hotel. Vivid dahlias and branched hydrangeas artistically arranged made the lounge, with its big fire-places, a most attractive place. Miss Douglas received her : guests, wearing a dark rust coloured ensemble with matching hat, and later told some of those who asked her a little about the difficulties, as well as the pleasures,-of- posing children and animals for photography. The pictures were disposed about the lounge, and gave great pleasure to all by their interest and artistry. Some had been exhibited in London where they received much commendation. Miss Douglas came to New Zealand some, years ago, and has paid a visit to her homeland since when she made a special study of photography with very gratifying results as shown by her work. Among the guests were the following:—Lady Roberts; Mrs. yon Zedlitz, Mrs. Jervis, Mrs. M. Hobbs, Miss B. Humphries, Miss Mary Chesney, Mrs. L. Vaughan Morgan, Miss J. Jervis, Mrs. Hansell, Miss Gwen Hansell, Mrs. S. Gerrard, Mrs. E. McLean, Mrs. Marshall, Mrs. B. Anson, Mrs. Handyside, Mrs. Sladden, Miss Vida Sladden, Mrs. Watson (Bulls), Mrs. E. Riddifofd, Mrs. Fry, Mrs. Bunny, Mrs. Ewen, Mrs. G. D. Dawson, Miss Skerrett, Miss Simpson, Miss O.'.arid,Miss U. Turton. IDEAS FOR CUSHIONS Tailored cushions of novel shape br.ing distinction to a scheme of decoration. A clover leaf is attractive. The thickly quilted square is corrugated- by diagonal stitchery. The triangular bolster is another idea, and the horseshoe, which fits snugly about neck arid'shoulders;.. Plain colours and trim tailoring are more effective than patterns and decoration. Light cushions may be I■, placed on dark chairs or settee covers i lor the reverse. . i
