ESTATE OF £112,000

MAORI GIRL'S CLAIM

HAWKE'S BAY PROPERTY

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, March 31

The legal effect of the provisions in a deed of settlement and will under which a- Maori girl, 19 years of age, claims £95,000, was further argued before Mr. Justice Callan in the Supreme Court today. •

The claimant is Miss, Heremoana Minnie Kerehoma,. whose father, Kangi Kerehoma, died in November, 1918: He owned extensive property in Hawke's Bay.

The chief question at issue _is whether Miss Kerehoma should have possession of the estate immediately or whether it does not come to her until she is 21 or upon the date of her earlier marriage. His Honour said in view of the exhaustive inquiries that had been made he did not see why" he should have any doubt whatever that Miss Kerehoma was the only surviving child of her father. That ground had been sufficiently covered. . : Counsel for the group of defendants said the estate was assessed at £112,000. ■ His Honour: In spite of,all these settlements pjQQr .Kerehoma- did not escape death duties. .Counsel':" On the contrary, he paid £15,000 in estate, and succession duties,. ■ Decision was reserved.
