RECORD VOTE FOR

PEACETIME

HUGE BATTLESHIPS URGED

WASHINGTON, March 9. The House of Representatives today approved a record peacetime army appropriation of 545,000,000 dollars, including 7,000,000 dollars for fortifications at Hawaii, the Panama Canal and on the Pacific Coast. Mr. Cary, chairman of the Appropri-

ations Sub-committee, said it was pres pared to report a 540,000,000-dollar Naval Bill providing for the construction of 333 aeroplanes, 12 destroyers, six submarines, and other craft.
