SOME RECENT MEETINGS

Wellington District Lodge—Bio. E. J. Mathers, D.D.G.M., presided over a good ' attendance.'• Accounts totalling £48 3s 6d were passed. Eight members of f.ubordinate lodges were advanced to the Third Degree by the District Degree Master (Bro. F.-Phillips). .Reports were received on official visits, district annual picnic, social and dance celebrating the hundredth annivei-sary of the establishment ■of the order in New Zealand and^Australia, unemployed members' due's;fund. and membership progress-in the district for the July-December half-year, a creditable advance being recorded. Judges were appointed for the term ritual competitions of- subordinate, Rebekah, and juvenile lodges, and it was decided-to request lodges to indicate preferences for venue of annual church parade commemorating the 117 th anniversary of the foundation of the order.

Maraenui Lodge (Miramar).—Bro. E. Winter, N.G., presided over a good at-. tendance, including theD.D.G.M. (Bro; R. J. Mathers) arid officers of Southern Cross, Zealandia, and Wildey Lodges making official visits. The first nomination of officers for next term was taken, and the standing committee was authorised to renew the lease of the lodge room. The D.D.G.M. delivered the district travelling gavel.

Southern Cross IjOdfje.—Brb. W. Wrightson, N.G., presided over a good attendance, visitors including Bro. S. Crabbe (Star of Napier "Lodge) and Bro. F. Heilly. Nine members were reported on the sick-list, and accounts totalling £72 0s 2d were passed. One candidate was initiated. Reports of the standing and. social committees were adopted, and fhe first nominations of officers for the ensuing term were> received.•. Several members were authorised to receive degrees at District Lodge. The date of play lor the U.F.S. "500" shield was accepted, and a challenge was entered for the district "500" shield against Ngatitoa Lodge (Porirua).

Esther Rebekah Loctee (Karon).— Sister A. McKeand, N.G., presided over a good attendance, including officers of Victoria Rebekah Lodge on an official visit. First-nominations were taken of officers for the ensuing term. After.-the meeting a successful card tournament was held, the prizes being Won by Sisters E. Maley, N. Sergeiit, A. McKeand, and V. Roberts. Rose of Wellington Rebekah Lodge. —Sister M. Flails, N.G., presided over a large attendance. Official visits were received from the D.D.G.M. (Bro. R. J. Mathers) arid ttieL.D^D.G.M. (Sister M. Sergent). The half-yearly accounts and returns were adopted, the evening being concluded with a social in conjunction with Southern Cross Lodge. MANCHESTER UNITY ODD- ■•;.. .--.:■■ ■ FELLOWS. v Loyal Britannia Lodge— Bro. p. J: Mcllraith-presided over a good attendance, including numerous visitors. Two candidates' were initiated. Sick visitors reports were1-received and sick pay passed. Routine business disposed or the meeting adjourned early to celebrate the ninety-second anniversary of the foundation of ;the lodge, the function being in the form of a smoke concert. There was a good representation of all lodges in the district as Avell as a number of visitors from lodges as far afield as Auckland. Bro. A. U Blair (Grand Master of the order in New Zealand), Bro. Shrimpton (grand secretary), and Bro. Cropp (district Grand Master) were, amongst the visitors.; The Noble Grand extended a cordial welcome to a,ll, and there were many interesting speeches of congratulation. '- ' ■■ '"'■■' ■

Loyal Petone Lodge (Mocra Branch). —Bro. Heron.presided over a good attendance. Before commencing business members. stood :in silence as a mark of respect to the memory of me late Bro. Curtis. Two new members were initiated. Sister Rushlon reported on the proposed dance. Business dispensed with the lodge adjourned and members paid a .visit to Loyal Rose of the Valley Lodge: ■■

Hospital Association.—The annual meeting .of the , association was presided over by the District Grand Master, Bro. Keith. Cropp.. The report of the management committee and the annual accounts and balance-sheet were adopted. Bro. W. 8,. Brown was elected vice-president. Bros. Ailcpck, Fraser, Norrj.s,- Treadwell, and Wilson we're're^electecl''to the management committee, Bro. J. L. Stewart being elected the sixth member of the committee. Bros. G. Bell and S. Park were re-elected auditors. Reynish, and his eugolistic remarks were endorsed by visiting officers from the other lodges in the district. . ORDER OF RECHABITES. Excelsior Tent.r—The usual fortnightly meeting was*'held recently ..with^ a good 'attendance.;-the C.R., Sister G. H. Jefferyi presiding. At the conclusion of business a-'short programme was held, -including-community singing, a solo'by Bro. W-.G. Carpenter, and competitions. The D.C.R., Bro. T. E. Davis, was.present. Recently the bowls team attended a combined meeting of Wellingtbn and district tents at Lower Hutt, at which the usual tent business was attended to, one candidate being initiated. The principal chair was taken by the D.CK.,Bro. T. E. Davis, supported by provincial'officers. The final of the annual bowls tourney was played between teams representing Petone and Excelsior Lodges, resulting in the Excelsior team - retaining the Newman Cup for another year. At the close of the game the donor, Bro. J. Newman, presented the cup and congratulated both winners and runnersup. ■'■'.' Perseverance Tent.—Bro. A. Roy, Chief Ruler, presided over a fair at-, tendance. Two members were reported on the sick list. Two members were admitted on clearances. ; Bro. J. Skelley reported on the indoor bowling committee's meeting. Reports were given by delegates on the U.F.S. Medical Institute and the U.F.S. Dispensary. A report was also received from the social committee. It was announced that the fund for the Ferguson Memorial was receiving fair support, and would close at the end of March. The usual hearty welcome was given to the visitors and the tent concluded its meeting with harmony.
