AMATEUR ATHLETICS
P. MUNRO'S RETIREMENT
SERVICES APPRECIATED
"He has been a tower of strength to us over many years," said Mr. H. Rose, the chairman, at a meeting of the Wellington Amateur Athletic Centre last night, referring to the retirement from active participation in athletics of P. Munro, the well-known Wellington field events exponent. A letter was received from Mr. Munro stating that, although he was retiring from active athletics, he wished to remain a member of the Wellington Club. It was decided to send a letter of appreciation to Mr. Munro for his services, and to invite him to help with the coaching of field athletes. The suggestion was also made that Mr. Munro might be appointed a judge of field events. Mr. A; C. Kitto reported on the Wellington team's performance at the recent New Zealand championship meeting at Dunedin and on the trip generally, his remarks following the lines of his comment published in "The Post" after his return from Dunedin. He said that the team's performance was as good, if not better, than he expected, though the sprinters were rather disappointing. Mr. Kitto was thanked for his services as manager of the team and for his report, and it was. decided to send a letter to the Otago Centre expressing appreciation for its arrangements and hospitality, with special thanks to the president and secretary. ilt is not known yet whether the Motueka Club wants a visit from a Wellington team on Easter Monday, but Mr. Kitto said it might be possible to make arrangements within the next few days. If suitable arrangements can be made, a team is to be sent to compete at Nelson on Easter Saturday and at Motueka on Easter Monday.
