CENTRE FINANCES

CLOSING OF SEASON

When- reviewing the finances and the probable income and expenditure during the .remainder of the season, the ■ hon. treasurer (Mr. J. Kershaw) said at last night's meeting o.C the Wellington Bowling Centre that the centre was unlikely to conclude the yc;uwithout incurring an overdraft or making a levy on clubs. The arranging of visits by the. centre to other centres was discussed at some length, and several delegates referred to the disinclination of Wellington bowlers to travel to other places with centre teams. This, it was pointed out, hindered the centre in keeping its engagements. Consideration was given to the likelihood of a team being secured to visit Christchurch to play the Christchurch Centre for the Barnett Tiki, and the matter was left to the match committee. The opinion was held by some delegates that it would be diflicult to get sufficient players to make up the team so late in the season, but Mr. S. M. Stone urged that the fixture should not be abandoned lightly. The date of the proposed visit is March 28. Because of the weather having interfered with the local season and because of the nearness of the Marlborough Easter tournament, in which a number of Wellington players will be participating, it was decided to inform the Marlborough Centre that Wellington would be unable to send "a team to visit it next weekend as arranged. , ' It was decided to hold the presentation of trophies and the official closing of the season on the Woburn Club's green on April 4. The Hutt Club was granted permission to hold a one-day tournament on I March 17, and the Hutt Valley Bowling Association was given permission to play interclub matches for the Me Arthur Shield on April 10, 11, and 13. The games are between Hutt Valley clubs. . „' ■ An obscurity in the clause in the conditions which governed post-section play in the pennant competition was pointed out by Mr. C. G. Scolon. The question was whether aggregate points or rink wins should be counted when extra heads had to be played because the teams had tied on rink wins and also on aggregate points. The centre resolved that its interpretation of the clause1, should be that in the event of an extra head or heads being played the winners should be determined on points. .
