"I think an exaggerated attention to diet and exercise quite unnecessary for the maintenance of a good figure and perfect health," said Miss Mary Munro, who passed through Auckland in' the Mariposa on Saturday en route to England, states the "New Zealand Herald." Miss Munro was recently the winner of a "physical perfection" competition conducted in London by a leading women's journal, and she is now returning from a six weeks' vacation.'

She is 28 years of age, sft 7in tall, with Sark brown eyes and hair. One of over 400 competitors, Miss Munro is employed as a mannequin by a wellknown London dress-designing estabwas due partly/to her dislike of exagwas dut partly to her dislike of exaggerated make-up and partly to her walk, which she has endeavoured to keep as naturally free as possible.

Miss Munro said she did not adopt

a rigid diet or form of exercise. She ■did a great deal of walking and seized every opportunity for being in the open air and in the country. She played tennis and golf Occasionally, arid"she;also-swam, but less frequently; although she did not favour a definite diet, she watched her.meals carefully. In- her opinion meat, especially the richer varieties, should be eaten only once a day/ Good soup,'plain sweets, plenty of fruit and vegetables, with preference for greens such as lettuce, cabbage, spinach, and cauliflower, and several glasses 6f water between, and occasionally with meals, were sufficient to maintain a healthy digestion.

Miss Munro saidjShe did not see how la "starvation diet" could be anything but detrimental to health.. Women, on the whole, did not require largo or heavy meals, but they should cat plenty and as much as they wished of the right foods. Today thcie was a great deal of fuss made about diet and health, and women especially were becoming obsessed with a love of slimness that in many cases was a worry and a detriment to their health.
