MODERATE COMPETITION

The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office under date March 10:—The sales have opened with moderate competition and large attendance of buyers. Prices for crossbreds are par to lid per 1b higher. New Zealand merinos not represented. RUSSIAN SUPPORT. Levin and Company, Ltd., have received the following cable from their London Agents, dated March 10:—The auctions opened here today with a large attendance of Home and Continental buyers. Good competition mainly from the Home trade supported by Russia. Compared with the closing rates of last sale the market generally is par to 5 per cent, higher, particularly for merinos and slipe wools generally. As at present arranged the sales will close on March 24. HOME TRADE CHIEF BUYERS. Dalgety and Company, London, report:—Wool sales opened. Average attendance. Selection chiefly New Zealand crossbreds. Good competition. Home trade principal operators.
