WELLINGTON TROTS
RACING IN THE MUD
BIG TOTALISATOR SLUMP
The Wellington Trotting' Club was most unfortunate in. the change of weather for the second, day of the Autumn Meeting yesterday. Heavy rain set in after the second race, and continued for the rest of the afternoon. Racing .conditions grew steadily worse, and the track was a quagmire. Drivers became almost unrecognisable, behind masks of mud. It followed that the attendance was only fair, and the totalisator mvest•nerts slumped, the total for the day being £8929 10s, making ' a total of £24,580 10s. for the meeting. Last year the Autumn Meeting was a oneday fixture. It was estimated that the loss an the. meeting would be about jp OCA - Form worked out fairly well, Mabel Chimes returning the only doublefigure dividend. The principal event, the Metropolitan Handicap, was won in runaway style by a rare mudlark in Queen Author, and King's Warrior again outclassed "the sprinters, giving the Auckland, trainer F. J. Smith his fourth success at "the meeting. '; '. . '' ■
