SWIMMING
PRIMARY SCHOOLS
HUTT VALLEY EVENTS
The annual swimming sports of the Hutt Valley primary schools always result in keen competition, and this was the rule at the Riddiford Baths, Lower Hutt, yesterday afternoon. The children and their parents attended in large numbers. Some of the children showed considerable talent, but few persuaded the judges that their breaststroke style was permissible. The races were held to the accompaniment of yells of encouragement from hundreds of children. Hutt Central were the champion school,. with Eastern Hutt second and Wilford third. Excellent sportsmanship was shown by the children. The teachers capably controlled the meeting. ;
Mr. A. Werry, president of the Hutt Valley Primary Schools Sports Association, welcomed the parents, inspectors, teachers, and members of the Education Board, and read an apology from the Hon. W. Nash. He referred to the excellent work done by the retiring custodian, Mr. Penhall, and made a.presentation to him.
Three cheers were given, for . Mr, Penhall. . . ■
