AN HEIR WANTED

The death of Sir Hector Munro aged eighty-seven, eleventh baronet of Foulis and thirty-third of his line, which occurred at Foulis Castle, Rossshire, recently, raises a problem over the succession to the title, which was created in 1634. His son, Captain Hector Munro, M.C., Seaforth Highlanders, was killed in action-in France in 1918. "Who's Who" and "Whitaker's" state that the succession falls on Sir. Hector's cousin, Mr. George Hamilton, aged 71, of Cliffe Buildings, Guildford. Mr. Patrick Gascoigne, Sir Hector's grandson, however, speaking from Ardullie Lodge, Ross-shire, one of the late baronet's seats, said that the family had no idea who would succeed. "I think the heir is a very distant cousin of whom all we know is that his name is Munro." Debrett's "Peerage" maintains a discreet silence on the subject, but a member of the Edinburgh firm of solicitors acting on behalf of the estate said:—"l am rather of the opinion that the baronetcy becomes extinct, though I cannot be certain." Sir Hector was a former A.D.C. to the King.
