DETECTIVE'S DEFENCE

SYDNEY CONSPIRACY CASE

SYDNEY, February 10.

Evidence today in the hearing of charges of conspiracy to defraud against John Ellis Findlay, Ernest Pierce Coombe, Charles Richard Tanser, and William. Campbell, related largely to efforts on the part of Campbell and' Makin to interest certain persons in the Chargol Syndicate.

Detective-Sergeant Arnold denied that he had accepted money from either Findlay or Campbell for improper purposes, nor had he attempted to prevent ex-Detective Findlay from carrying out his duty. The case was adjourned.
