FEWER GORSE FIRES
Although the present summer is compared with the previous summer in a somewhat unfavourable light by most people, the additional rainfall has been welcomed by the fire fighting authorities as it has resulted in a considerable reduction in the number of gorse fires. During the month of December only fifteen calls were received to gorse and rubbish fires, and the figures for the nine-month period ending on December 31 show a reduction of almost 40 per cent, compared with the figures for the corresponding period last year. There were, only fifteen property fires last month.'
