HAPPY HOME-COMING

"FIVE O'CLOCK" RECEPTION

Mrs. A. Farrington returned to Wellington from a trip abroad by the Makura yesterday morning, and gave a sherry party in the Palm Lounge of the Hotel St. George between five and seven o'clock in the evening. Mrs. Farrington gave the party in order to greet old friends and to give them the opportunity of expressing their good wishes for the future happiness of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. G. West-Newman, who accompanied her to Wellington and whose wedding took place in England during November at the old Saxon Church of St. Nicholas, Compton, Surrey.

It was a very gay function, and in addition to the savouries served with the sherry there was also wedding cake, which had been brought out from England for the occasion. The lounge looked charming with tall bowls of glorious red and pink gladioli decorating occasional tables and baskets of rose-coloured hydrangeas hanging on the walls, while on the grand piano, which was covered with a white rose-embroidered Spanish shawl, there was a huge plate-like floating bowl of green glass filled with deep red roses. Mrs. Farrington wore a frock and three-quarter length coat of heavy black georgette, the frock having a white georgette yoke appliqued with black lace, and her hat of black

Bangkok straw had large white dots embroidered on the brim. Mrs. WestNewman's smart navy blue wool mariette frock had large white pleated pique cuffs and collar and while pique flowers at the throat, and she wore a navy blue hat swathed with white. Her sister, Mrs. John Macdonald, who arranged the party for her mother, was wearing a frock of fawn and white floral crepe de chine with white organdie flowers at the neckline, and she wore a large fawn straw hat.
