MEETING AT GENEVA
ITALIAN OPINION
"OF SLIGHT IMPORTANCE"
(Received January 16, 1.45 p.m.)
LONDON, January 15.
The "News-Chronicle" has received I from Mr. Vernon Bartlett in Geneva a report that League circles : though most anxious for peace, consider that the League and the Italian viewpoints are still so irreconcilable that negotiations at present would merely postpone stricter enforcement of sanctions. Thera is a widespread belief that Britain <s anxious to abandon the oil embargo proposal. "> The "Daily Mail's" Rome correspondent says that the Italians have not decided to send a delegation to Geneva and consider that the meeting is of slight importance and is unlikely to make final decisions. The "Daily Mail's" Paris representative supports the general belief that oil sanctions have been shelved.
