NEW YORK, January 14.
Mr. Howard Hughes, holder of the world speed record for land aeroplanes, broke the transcontinental record today when he flew a Northrop monoplane from Los Angeles to New York non-stop in nine hours 27 minutes 10 seconds, which is 35 minutes 41 seconds under Colonel Roscoe Turner's previous record . set in 1934.
By using an oxygen tank he maintained an altitude of 18,000 feet most of the time, and averaged 260 miles an hour for approximately 2450 miles. At times he reached a speed of 295 miles art hour, v
Mr. Howard Hughes is a millionaire oil operator and film producer who sprang to fame in the motion-picture world with "Hell's Angels." A short time ago he set up a world speed record for land aeroplanes of 352 miles an hour.
