COURTROOM SCENE.

One morning, nearly forty years ago, a young unemployed shipyard worker walked into a Virginian courthouse arid there conceived the idea that became the basis of one of the most famous vaudeville acts in the history of the theatre. Today, Walter C. Kelly, who will play the title role in Paramount's forthcoming comedy-drama, "The Virginia Judge," has risen to international fame with his famous "Virginia Judge" act. "As I look back over the yqars I can recall this scene vividly," Kelly said. "Although, at the time,, it was no more than passing interest, that morning as the succession of prisoners passed before the Judge, the showmanship possibilities of the affairs struck me forcibly. When recess was called at noon I came from the fetid atmosphere of that Police Court profoundly impressed and firmly resolved that this heretofore undiscovered goldmine of humour and pathos should serve as the basis upon which I would make my stage career."
