ZANE GREY
ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND
EN ROUTE TO AUSTRALIA
. (By Telegraph—Press-Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. . En route to Australia to explore game fishing possibilities in Australian coastal waters and to make moving pictures, Zane Grey, the famous novelist and sportsman, passed through Auckland by the Mnriposa today. The launch Avalon, which was used by Zane Grey in New Zealand waters, is waiting at Sydney and will be used by him while he is fishing for three months oft the south coast. He intends spending three months along the Great Barrier Reef, where swordfish and sliarks, identical to the New Zealand mako, have been reported in large numbers. "If I find good fighting grounds, we will take movie pictures' of the sport," Zane Grey said. "One film will be purely a record of our fishing, but the other will be a romance, of which the scenes will be partly on the fishing grounds and partly ashore. The pictures -will be made by a British film company, British actors and actresses and Hollywood technicians and cameramen being booked' to come by the Monterey on her next trip." NEW ZEALAND'S MAKO. Reverting to the topic of big-game fish, Zane Grey said he doubted whether the shark reported from Australia as. the mako was really the same great fighting fish that frequented New Zealand waters. A similar claim had been made for a species of shark caught off the Atlantic coast of Arncrica, but the fish showed little of the pugnacity of the true mako. The only place outside New . Zealand where .he had: caught the true/makq was Tahiti,'and even there the fish showed considerable variation from the New' Zealand type.. . :■•■■■...-.: ■ "It is sure hard not stepping ashore here, but 11, can come back if I cannot get the fishing in Australia. I guess no country could be as beautiful as New Zealand," Zane Grey concluded.
