The Paris correspondent of the "Daily Telegraph" states that the rapidity of the exhaustion of Italy's gold reserve is indicated in the Bank of France's return, showing that . gold stocks" increased by, over £5,0,00,000, the bulk of which came from Italy during .the week ending December .20. Italy's straits are proved by the recent attempt to arrange a large oil contract in Rumania, for which she offered one-third in gold, one-third in goods, and the remainder after the war, but, Rumania insisted .on cash dqwn. French opposition newspapers declare that the financial difficulties will soon force Italy to.cease the war.
