COMRADES' TRIBUTE
EX-SOLDIER'S FUNERAL
An indication1 of the great popularity of the late Mr. Charles McDougall in returned soldiers' circles and as a messenger at Parliament Buildings was given ■at the Soldiers' Cemetery, Karori, on Christmas Eve when about one hundred ex-servicemen attended his funeral. ' Mr. McDougall, who was a corporal in the forces; was popularly and affectionately known as "Scotty." He was always an active and obliging messenger and his sudden death caused ,regret not only in the ranks of exsoldiers and his fellow messengers, but also among members of Parliament.
The pall-bearers were Messrs. C A. L. Treadwell, (Mr. McDougall's officer during the war), J. Leslie, C. Bedford, and J. Hawkins (returned soldiers employed at Parliament Buildings). The Government '■■ and Parliament was represented by the Hon. P. Fraser and Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., the Parliamentary staff by' Lieutenant-Colonel S. G. Sandle, and the Wellington Re-' turned Soldiers' Association by Mr. K. Calders. ■ , .
At the conclusion of the funeral service the returned soldiers present filed past the open grave, each dropping a Flanders poppy on the.casket as a last tribute to their comrade.
