NINE DATS' CARNIVAL.
Municipal Tramways Band.
The Wellington Municipal Tramways Band will be .holding a carnival on the Evans Bay foreshore from December 26 to January 4. The object of the carnival is to raise funds to enable the band to enter the New Zealand band contest at New Plymouth in February. At this time of the year everyone tends to forget the cares of the old year and look forward with hope to the new. The beach carnival is designed to add to the gaiety of the season. There will be "all the fun of the fair" at the Tramways Band Carnival, including novel sideshows, sporting events, novelty races. The band will be in attendance daily. There will be many events for which trophies will be given. Entries for the tug-of-war and bathing beauty competitions close on December 24. Further particulars are advertised.
Ten passengers were killed and 46 injured when a train in Japan fell into a river recently through the collapse of a bridge.
The number of unemployed on Tyneside is decreasing. Since March this year 13 concerns have opened, and during the past 20 months there have been 455 business extensions in the district.
