WELSH TEAM

CARDIFF RUGBY TEST

SELECTION ANNOUNCED

ALL BLACKS' OPPONENTS

AN EXPERIENCED SIDE

United Press Association—By Electric Tel»» graph—Copyright. (Received December 16, 1 p.m.) LONDON, December 15. The Welsh team which is to play against the New Zealanders in the Rugby football Test match on Saturday is as follows:— Full-back: V. G. J. Jenkins (London Welsh). Three-quarters: W. Wooller (Cambridge University), Idwal Rees (Swansea), E. C. Davey (Swansea), G. R. Rees-Jones (Oxford University). Stand-off Half: C. W. Jones (Cambridge University). Scrum Half: H. Tanner (Swansea). Forwards: A. M. Rees (Londoa Welsh), J. I. B. Lang (Llanelly), G. Prosser (Neath), T. Williams (Crosskeys), T. Rees (Newport), E. Watkins (Cardiff), D. J. Tarr (Navy and Swansea), H. Payne (Swansea). All but Tanner, Williams, Watkins, Tarr, and Payne are old internationals. NEWSPAPER COMMENTS. The Rugby writer of "The Times" considers that in view of the superfluity of mid-field backs, except for a scrum half, and the quantity rather than the quality o£ forwards, the selectors might have gone further and fared worse. Probably Tarr was chosen as a hooker but the selectors might have secured better results if they had picked the whole of the Swansea front row. • Jenkins is liable to have seriously, off days. Idwal Rees is preferable to Wooller as a centre, especially as Wooller's speed is better employed on thq wing. Davey is an excellent tackier. Rees-Jones is slow off the mark but was the best available as the other winger. Cliff Jones's experience and robustness caused him to be preferred to Tanner's club-mate, Davies. His knowledge ot Wooller's play is valuable but it is the forwards on whom the great responsibility rests. The "Daily Mail" doubts whether the forwards will be capable of defeating the All Black pack, but Lang is in a class by himself for binding the scrum and in the line-outs.
