COMBINED INSTITUTES
ANNUAL FLOWER SHOW
The second annual flower show by the combined Upper Hutt, Wallaceville, Trentham, and Silverstream Women's Institutes, was held recently in the Record Hall, Upper- Hutt. Mrs. S. D. Rogers presided. Mrs. Knox Gilmer, who declared' the show open, urged her fellow institute members to teach their children to value their heritage, the' New Zealand bush, and do everything in their power to preserve it. ' She had brought from her own garden some beautiful sprays of red and white manuka, and said when she was in England she had been told by florists that they had been unable to cope with orders for this beautiful plant so familiar to us. Mrs. Gilmer called attention to a collection of native flora by Mrs. S. Braid. This exhibit, she said, was of such outstanding merit that Mr. Waugh had expressed a wish to show ■it in the window of his Wellington business premises. The following was the prize list:— Decorated table, Mrs. Queree (Wallaceville) 1, Mrs. Ching (Wallaceville) 2; posy, Mrs. Braid (Upper Hutt) 1, Miss R. Allen (Wallaceville) 2; shoulder spray, Mrs. H. Hazelwood (Upper Hutt) 1, Mrs. S. Braid (Upper Hutt) 2; basket of flowers, Mrs. F. James (Trentham) 1, Mrs. Lay (Silverstream) 2; floral box, Mrs. Anderson (Wallaceville) 1, Mrs. Ching (Wallaceville) 2; child's buttonhole, M. John
