STOCK SALES

BEEF PRICES EASIER

To an average attendance of buyers Wright, Stephenson and Abraham andj Williams submitted a good yarding of both cattle and sheep at Johnsonville yesterday. Prime heavy bullocks met with keen competition, but owing to a drop in the wholesale price of beef prices were again easier by 15s to £1 per head. Plain and unfinished sorts were hard to sell even at very low prices. Several pens of prime heavy cows and heifers were yarded, but here again prices were easier, though not to the same extent as with the ox beef. Dairy sorts were hard to sell. A small yarding of runners and vealers sold well at late rates. A goo 4 yarding, comprising chiefly heavy wethers with a few pens of light weight sheep, met with keen competition at prices on a level with last, week. There was a smaller yarding of ewes than usual; the yarding consisted mainly of good heavy sheep, which sold on a par with last week. Plainer sorts were easier to the extent of Is to Is 6d per head. Owing to the poor quality of hoggets yarded they were hard to quit even at reduced rates. A large, yarding of lambs of all grades came forward and met with keen competition at prices slightly better than export rates.
